DIY weddings in unique locations are my absolute favourite! Last September I had the pleasure of providing my on the day coordination service for the lovely Kate and James at The Black Horse pub in Otley. Their wedding looked absolutely stunning, showcasing how to plan and design a pub wedding that had true sophistication and style.
Don’t let a blank canvas space put you off, below are just a few ideas on how to create a stylish pub wedding; alongside Typical Type who provided their rustic wooden trestle tables and cross back chairs.
Furniture
The beauty of a pub wedding is the event space is often a blank canvas for you to bring to life. The trestles and chairs from Typical Type gave the venue a modern twist and really complemented the overall look and feel of their wedding day. When booking a blank canvas location, think outside the box and don’t feel like you have to use everything that the venue provides. You can see below how much of a a difference it makes!

Flowers
The floral installations were most definitely a key factor in creating such a stylish wedding. The most beautiful arrangements at the church, which were then brought back to the pub setting to compliment both the interior and exterior areas. Zosia and the team at The Plant Room really pulled out all the stops and completely fulfilled the brief.

Colour Palette
I loved the colour palette that Kate and James chose, the perfect autumnal tones for the change in season. You can see how the combination of colours were transferred through to each and every aspect of the day, from the flowers to the place names.

The Food
Kate and James chose to have The Grazing Guys on board for their food offering during the drinks reception, as well as a cheesecake station for after their wedding breakfast. The presentation was phenomenal and worked perfectly in the pub courtyard area.
Grazing cuisine is really popular at the moment, particularly for couples who are a planning a more relaxed and non traditional wedding day. Josh and Huw were amazing to work with and really take pride in the presentation and overall service. The grazing tables looked amazing against the blue backdrop and really added the wow factor to the courtyard area.”

We also asked our fabulous bride Kate what she loved most about styling their wedding day!
One of the elements we loved most about styling our pub wedding was working with the building’s existing character and finishes as a reference point. The Black Horse has some beautiful architectural details such as colourful Burmantofts wall tiling and further mosaic flooring which we reflected in our colour scheme and floral choices, even referencing Kirkstall Brewery in the selection of hops and tiny details such as the orange toned GF Smith Gmund ‘Pils’ paper used for menus and place names.
We really wanted a venue at the heart of the place we live in, that allowed us to feel special but relaxed, somewhere allowed us to use as many local suppliers as possible and a place which we could revisit and a pub wedding fit this bill perfectly!
